oops. i sort of fell off for a while. it felt wrong not to do a list so here’s a delayed reaction to my top listen list from 2012. per usual there is no order. 2012 was a great year for varied listening.

macklemore & ryan lewis: the heist > can’t hold us

i couldn’t get enough of this album. in addition to can’t hold us, listen to same love, now.

lord huron: lonesome dreams > time to run
i was so happy when i came across lord huron. this album was right up my alley. so many layers sounding serene and upbeat all at the same time.

plus the video is great, i am a sucker for Westerns.

japandroids: celebration rock > the house that heaven built

i dare you to listen to this album and not instantly feel pumped up. i got to see them play at The Paradise this year. they put on a great show with lots of energy.

alt-J: an awesome wave > fitzpleasure

lead singer Joe Newman’s voice is definitely not for everyone but that’s what drew me in. side note: possibly one of the oddest videos i’ve seen in awhile.

and then there were all the random songs i chainsmoked {we are augustine’s chapel song, fiona apple’s hot knife, florence and the machine’s lover to lover, and hot chip’s motion sickness}

in 2013 i’m looking forward to josh ritter’s new release the beast in it’s tracks

and ra ra riot’s beta love. very different sounds coming from them. not sure how i feel just yet. i will wait to judge until i have heard the whole album.
